Gathering Information

Monday, 26 February 2007

Yean already started packing for the Langkawi trip yesterday! Lian & me haven't.

I thought I looked up some information about Langkawi from the internet. Amazingly results! "Travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Langkawi" produces a result of 1,110,000. "Visiting Langkawi" produces a result of 292,000........................ And "Langkawi" produces 4,720,000. I only went through some of the results on the first page!

It would take about 8 hours, by road, from Kuala Lumpur to Kuala Perlis (the 2nd largest town and the main port of the smallest state in Malaysia - Perlis) on the northwestern coast of the Peninsula Malaysia.

Then we have to board the ferry, which runs daily from 7 am to 7 pm to Langkawi island, which is 30 km away. The ferry operates every 30 minutes. The ferry journey would takes 45 minutes. According to the fare listing, it should cost us 12 MRinggit per adult. ****I hope I don't get seasick****

I learnt that Langkawi is an archipelgo of 104 islands and they are sited where the Straits of Malacca meets the waters of the Andaman Seas. The main island is called Langkawi - that is where we are going!

Like any other parts of Malaysia, the weather will be mostly humid, wear light clothing, carry an umbrella unless you love to get wet in the rain. I must remember to bring my foldable umbrella because I don't like too much sun either!

The places of interest? I have gathered the following and I hope to visit the ones highlighted (only if Lian, Yean & Aisah agree):

1. Air Hangat Village (0900-1800, there is a cultural show from 1515-1545 - I want to see that!) (4 MR).
2. Batik Art Village (0900-1800) (free).
3. Pantai Pasir Hitam (Black Sand Beach).
4. Crafts Cultural Complex (0900-1800) (free).

5. Eagle Square (free) - a prominent landmark - a giant monument of a brown eagle clutching the manganese stone. I believe this tells the name of the island. It was written that "Lang" in the Malay language means "Brown Eagle" and "Kawi" means "manganese stone". It also stated that the ancient fishermen must have seen eagles flying clutching the manganese stone.

6. Galeria Perdana
7. Gua Cherita
8. Malaysia Book Village
9. Lagenda Park (0900-1900) (5 MR).
10. Laman Padi Langkawi
11. Langkawi Bird Paradise (09--01800) (12 MR)

12. Langkawi Cable Car - Someone wrote in the net, to try the cable car, if it is the first time visiting the island. We sure will!

13. Langkawi Crocodile Farm
14. Langkawi Crystaal
15. Langkawi Yacht Club
16. Mahsuri Mausaleum (Makam Mahsuri) (0800-1830) (2 MR).
17. Pulau Payar Marine Park (free)
18. Pulau Singa Besar
19. Summer Palace (0930-1900) (3.50 MR).
20. Tanjung Rhu
21. Seven Wells
22. Tasik Dayang Building
23. Underwater World Langkawi (1000-1800) (38 MR)
24. Island Cruises
25. Pantai Rhu (Casuarina Beach)
26. Kusha Town
27. Hot Springs

Hotel Accommodation Booked

Saturday, 13 January 2007

Confirmation (amended) slip for 2 rooms for 2 nights (2nd & 3rd March), at Berjaya Langkawi Beach & SPA Resort, issued.

We have initially booked for 1 room for 2 nights but decided to book another room because my friend, Aisah, agreed to join me, Lian & Yean. I am looking forward to spending the weekend with my children and my friend, Aisah. She has been my classmate, housemate, confidante. We have been friends for more than 35 years, through thick and thin, and we still keep in touch.

I hope she will not back out, due to job-operational reasons! I would be very disappointed. And if we don't get together that weekend, we might not have another chance, for a long long time.

Let us go to Langkawi

Wednesday, 27 December 2006

We have heard of Langkawi through advertisments in television, newspapers, etc. We have read about it in the net. Yean had been there in Oct/Nov 2006. He had written about it in his blog. Lian & me haven't, so we decided to check with Berjaya Vacation Club and see if there was any rooms available at their hotel. We wanted to visit during the Chinese New Year 2007 holiday break, but alas! it was fully booked. Must book well in advance for resort places. They are always fully booked during the holiday or festive seasons.

They have rooms for weekend of the 2 March, and since I would be around, we decided to take it. It was instant confirmation, at the Berjaya Vacation Club's office.

I was glad. We looked forward to the visit!
